Benin City Center Hotel

My four-day stay turned into a frightening and strange experience. The rooms are spacious, but the standard room had no window, and they wanted extra money for one with a window. Breakfast was included, though it was the same set meal every day, and they charged for even a piece of butter. I had also complained from the first day that the shower and closet weren't working properly, and felt the staff disliked me for it. They wanted the full room payment upfront. I paid part and said I'd settle the balance together with my other expenses at checkout. The staff understood and were helpful, but then the manager barged into my room, shouted as if I were staying for free, took the key, and left. There was no electricity or AC for hours. I told him that in my experience hotels take payment at the end of a stay, but he kept yelling and insulting me in their language. It was terrifying. They tried to make me leave and started throwing my things out. I wanted to call the police, but none of the numbers worked, and I thought I might get beaten there. The manager then called the police. Luckily, I had a video of him shouting, which helped me convince them. I deleted it in front of the police. They were good and helpful. After that, I was made to pay the full amount and allowed to continue my stay. I'm sharing this so other travelers can avoid a hotel like this.

Staff need better training. They're unprofessional and very rude, knocking on your door at any hour for pointless reasons.
