8/10
My room was clean, comfortable, and peaceful, with no problems. That was a good contrast with what some of my colleagues experienced. I stayed at Sun Beach Hotel during RAS BENIN 2025, and overall it was a good experience. Communication at reception was the main difficulty. The receptionist spoke only French and the local Beninoise language, so basic conversations were hard for those of us who knew neither. With international visitors coming to the hotel, even basic English would help a lot. We often had to use gestures or sign language, or ask someone who spoke French to help. It was funny at times, but frustrating too.

My stay was a really bad experience. The room AC didn’t work, so they gave me an Air Curtain Fan to use overnight. It was extremely noisy. Other people had complained about the same or similar problem with the AC. I hope they get these issues resolved.

The bed felt more like a wooden bench, the rooms were dirty, and there were mosquitoes everywhere. The water heater didn’t work, and they suggested giving me hot water in a bucket for bathing. Customer service was very poor and came across as inexperienced. Don’t come here.

The water was very clean, probably why the small pool got so crowded. But it wasn’t suited to beginners: about half of it was three metres deep, and the pool itself was small. Cleanest swimming pool I’ve been to, despite the crowd, but too small and deep for beginners.

The staff were friendly and trying their best to improve, and the hotel would be fine for a short stay, maybe three nights. It’s average overall, not especially bad, but breakfast needs a lot of work. I couldn’t find anything to eat apart from some decent pineapple pieces, coffee, and tasteless cakes. I’d give it three stars if I were being generous.
