Caribbean Chillout

We had a rough and frightening stay. We’d booked a king bed, but it was two single beds on a king frame. That surprised us, though at first we were fine with it. We had the place to ourselves, and Marloes seemed nice. The next morning, after I’d been out for a walk for about an hour, she stopped me by the pool and said she’d gone inside to switch off the AC because I’d left it running. I hadn’t realized my boyfriend had gone out too, and I’d seen our car outside. It felt intrusive, but I apologized and said he’d probably just gone for coffee. She said we had to turn off the AC even if we were gone for only a minute, and kept repeating it after I said I would. A night or two later, the power went out while I was brushing my teeth. Marloes knocked, and after I answered, she said she hadn’t turned off the power. I was stunned and wondered why she needed to tell me that at night. I later noticed nearby houses still had power and asked if they had generators. She became very upset, pointing toward the airport. I said I didn’t think she’d understood me, wished her goodnight, and went back inside. About half an hour later, there was frantic, nonstop knocking and she was calling my name. I was scared and didn’t answer. With the power out, she couldn’t see me. The next morning she knocked again, loudly, to say housekeeping would arrive in an hour. When I said we didn’t need them, she told me it wasn’t up to me. We felt so uncomfortable that we packed quickly and moved to another hotel. We kept the key and came back around 9 a.m. on checkout day to check we hadn’t left anything and return it. As I tried to open the room, she appeared yelling, as if I were trespassing. I explained why I was there, but she insisted the room had already been cleaned and told me not to go in. I handed over the key and headed to the car. She followed, shouting about us taking the key and disappearing and saying it was rude. I jogged back to the car and asked why she was following me. She came to the driver’s side and yelled to my boyfriend that I was an awful person. It was a nightmare. Maybe we started off on the wrong foot, but even aside from all that, we felt watched and uncomfortable. We stayed at Docks instead. It was the same price but had much more room and privacy, a more relaxed feel, a nicer bed and pillows, a queen bed without two singles separating us while we slept, and nice views and free parking. Everything was better there, including the lack of AC policing.
