Jaguar House Hostel

I spent one night at Jaguar House and was very happy with the stay. The receptionist was friendly, and arriving before the official check-in time was no problem. My clean room was shared by four people, and there were lockers available that could be locked. You can buy a lock for 10 BOB or bring your own. The showers and toilets were clean and spacious. The common areas are in a sunny patio with enough shade, and there’s a kitchen you can use for free, plus drinks for sale. Ask the receptionist for trip information. You can walk to most sights if you don’t mind a few minutes in the sun. I recommend walking because you get to see parts of Cochabamba you’d otherwise miss. I’d stay here again.

We booked a private room for one night and were really disappointed. The bed looked made with clean sheets, but there were several long black hairs on them, as if someone had slept there before us. The room smelled bad too. I’d suggest making sure it’s properly cleaned and aired out next time.

The breakfast was okay, maybe even nice, and the hostel itself is nice. But people were very loud at 2:30 AM, and the staff did nothing about it. Go here if you want to wake up a couple of times during the night. All the toilets are broken.

Jaguar hostel felt like a home away from home. The staff were friendly and knew their stuff, and the cuddly, chatty cat Jaguar was a delight. Breakfast with eggs or crepes was a great start to the day. We liked relaxing and meeting people in the sunny outdoor area, watching something in the TV and movie lounge, or playing ping pong. They sell cheap local craft beer and wine, and the central location meant we didn’t have far to walk to explore Cochabamba. The supermarket is just around the corner, and we made use of the kitchen to cook and bake. Torotoro is easy to reach from Cochabamba, and we could leave our bags at Jaguar House during our three-day tour. With all of that, it was hard to get out and explore. I wish more hostels offered this kind of experience!
