The receptionist was cheerful and spoke English, and we were glad to have a room after leaving a rubbish hostel. Ifti and I are touring South America and had come from La-Paz. Hotel America is right in the city centre. The room and beds were good, and breakfast was decent, though the little grill wasn't enough in place of a toaster. The bathroom door wouldn't close. The hotel seems to have lost its shine since its heyday, and despite the 4-STARS plaque outside, it feels like a lot less. Still, we were happy enough for our one-night stay.

I booked through Airbnb for after an overnight flight and tried calling and emailing the host. Airbnb tried to reach them too, but nobody responded. When I got there, no one was around. During festival weekend I was left without a room in Santa Cruz, and since it was the last one available, I had to go to Samaipata and missed Santa Cruz altogether. It was really stressful.

The location is nice and there's air conditioning, so you can sleep well. The bathroom isn't very nice, though, and the breakfast is terrible ;)

Cockroaches are everywhere, the internet is slow, and the TV doesn't work properly. The hotel isn't clean, and it costs too much to be worth even 50 bs. I wouldn't advise anyone to go there.
