The upstairs view over the city is amazing, and for a brief stay Maya Inn works well. It’s a relatively cheap hostel that covers the basics for a night. Rooms were fairly clean, though a bit old, and staff were reasonably friendly. Breakfast is simple, just bread, jam or butter, and fruit juice. They let us check in early, but still asked us to leave by noon, which was inconvenient since we’d arrived around 6 that same morning. The room only had an old roll of toilet paper, so bring your own. Other amenities, including the shower, look dated and could use some care.

The location is great, with La Recoletta about a five-minute walk uphill and the city center less than ten minutes downhill. Breakfast is included and the staff are friendly. It’s very affordable and works well for a night or two. Our room had a private bathroom, but the shower was freezing and there was barely any hot water.

Our bus got in around 5 a.m., and we arrived without a reservation needing a few more hours of sleep. They let us stay, which was really accommodating. We paid 80bs for a double room with a shared bathroom, plus a basic breakfast included. Having to check out by 10 a.m. after only a few hours was frustrating, though. Still, our first stay in Sucre was a good experience.

The staff were friendly, and there’s a nice city view from the top floor. It’s a cheap hostel on a quieter street, though a little farther from the center, so expect some walking. That’s about where the positives end. Our supposedly private room for two smelled horribly like wet dog. The sheets were clean, but the blanket smelled as if it hadn’t been washed in two months, and the mattress had wood poking into my back. Facilities were outside, there was only one hot shower, and mine was cold. WiFi was really slow. It’s family run, so I feel a bit bad saying it, but we wouldn’t come back.

Just a short walk from plaza 25, and I’d urge people to stay here. When we came back at night after seeing the city, a mariachi band was playing and people were dancing and laughing. The owner was amazing and so helpful, as was the other woman working there. There was a full parade outside, so she already had a busy day, but she was still a wonderful host.
