Hotel Samay Wasi

The windows were taped shut, and the rooms smelled strongly of air freshener. There’s a gym, though some of the machines feel like a death trap!

The rooms were really comfortable, and there are some lovely restaurants close by. It’s only a short walk to the square. We had a really nice stay.

The beds weren’t very comfortable, but the bathrooms have been remodeled and there’s a free breakfast buffet. The WiFi is so strong it still works after you cross the street. The hotel is about two blocks from the central market.

Our room, 420, was on the third floor of the rear building in April 2024. It had a comfortable single bed and a double, and was reasonably clean. The shower was hot, WiFi reception was good, and the building has a lift. There was no tea or coffee in the room. Breakfast was simple but adequate, with eggs. Hotel Samay Wasi is a large yellow complex on the northern edge of Uyuni, at -20.45729°, -66.81877°. Two multi-storey buildings are joined by a low-rise building with the breakfast restaurant. It’s about a 10-minute walk from the town centre, with no restaurants nearby. Tour groups heading to the salt flats and temporary workers in town often stay here. The accommodation and amenities are basic. Earlier reviewers mentioned uneven hot water, heating switched off early, and limited breakfast for early departures. A basic stopover hotel.
