Pousada Ana Raio

I’ve been waiting a month for the inn to send me the invoice for my stay. I’m writing to vent about how frustrated I am with two nights for two guests, from January 13 to 15, 2024, at Pousada Ana Raio in Alcobaça, Bahia. My stay was so disappointing that it ruined my vacation and rest. I ended up paying for accommodation that wasn’t fit to host anyone. The pictures on Booking and those published by Pousada Ana Raio were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what we found. The rooms had very damp walls, weren’t properly cleaned, and were falling apart. Booking’s general description said ALL ROOMS had air conditioning. One option was listed with a fan, so I assumed it would have a fan AS WELL AS air conditioning, as the general description said all rooms did. That’s why I chose it. When we arrived, the manager told me I’d have to pay extra for an “upgrade to a room with air conditioning.” The room ONLY HAD THE HOLE FOR THE AIR CONDITIONER. The fan didn’t work either, because one of the inn’s electrical phases had no power. On our first night, the power went out from 9:30 p.m. on January 13 until around 10 a.m. on January 14, basically a full night. With no electricity, I couldn’t use even the fan or the few other facilities at the inn, so we couldn’t enjoy what we’d been offered. Breakfast was another letdown and also didn’t match Booking’s description. There was only coffee, bread and margarine. When I asked about it, the owner rudely replied that “the guests got up very late, so there wasn’t a proper breakfast, because a horse that gets up early drinks clean water.”

The breakfast started out decent, but after the first few days they served leftovers from earlier days, and when the milk ran out they didn't replace it. The place itself was filthy and smelled bad. The sheets and towels had blood stains and smelled dusty and musty, and the rooms were tiny. Some doors wouldn't lock, and the bathroom door was hanging loose and wouldn't close. The shower in my room gave me strong shocks, then broke on the second day. Sra. Ana said it was my problem because it had worked when I arrived. She also tried to control how we used the fan and air conditioning, and made rude, inappropriate comments about guests' personal lives. I saw her yelling at and insulting the employees constantly. The Wi-Fi only seemed to work when new guests arrived, then Sra. Ana Raio would say it had a problem. The photos and claims were misleading. This place is a rip-off.

There were cockroaches and ants in the rooms, including crawling on the beds. The shower gave electric shocks, and exposed wires in the rooms were poorly insulated. The bedding was awful, and the tube TV looked like it might have been picked up from the trash. Service was terrible, and breakfast wasn't worth having.

I asked to switch rooms because the one they gave me was dirty, but they moved me into an even worse one. There was also a dead, dried-up mouse on the stairs to the second floor. Near checkout, they told me the room they'd moved me to cost more. I have no idea why. Terrible place, dirty rooms.
