The shower was fine, and the bed and pillows were comfortable, but the service didn’t match the price. The room looked good, though it was dark, and the Wi-Fi didn’t work properly in there. The sink was tiny and clogged. We asked for it to be fixed on the first day, but nothing changed. They didn’t replace the glasses or toiletries daily, either. The weather was cloudy and rainy, with evenings and nights a little cold, but we had to ask for a blanket and none was available. Breakfast ends early, at 10 a.m. Booking said reception was open 24 hours, but they close after 10 p.m. each day. To reserve, we had to make a bank deposit in advance; giving them a credit card number wasn’t enough.

It’s the people who make this Pousada special. I arrived knowing only a few words of Portuguese, and the amazing women who run it looked after me like a dear friend. Between sauna sessions, dips in the pool, meditation and free yoga, I loved relaxing in my hammock and watching the clouds go by. The pao de queijo and breakfast offerings are divine, and the main avenue is just a short walk away. I recommend this Pousada to anyone visiting Alto Paraiso. You won’t be disappointed.
