Ibiza Suítes

We made some great friends and felt very at ease during our Easter holiday at Ibiza Suítes. That made the trip feel worth the money, though a lot of those friendships came from gathering to share our complaints about the place. We went out a lot and had plenty of laughs. Still, if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Angra dos Reis, I'd look around more, since better value is possible. The feeling of being left to do whatever we wanted came from a lack of service. There were no staff around, and the person in charge said he'd let them go. Whenever we needed help, we had to message on WhatsApp and wait for a reply. At checkout, there was no real support either. We could apparently have stayed another week without anyone keeping track. The accommodation does provide what's advertised, but the photos give a misleading impression of a high-end place. It's old and in poor condition, and it seems to be permanently under construction. I booked a room with a “mountain view,” but there was no mountain, just such dense forest that literally no sunlight came through. I asked about moving to a room with a “beach view” and was told they were all booked. Yet it seemed only four or five rooms were actually in use, while most were out of service. From earlier reviews, it sounds like the renovation has been going on forever. The bedding and towels smelled bad, and the mildew smell was very strong. The TV barely worked. At times the owner apparently turned off the gas overnight, so some showers were cold, depending on the time, and there was no one to help. In the end, I was glad I couldn't switch rooms. The price difference would have been about R$400, and there wasn't really a beach there anyway, it was literally a mangrove. There were lots of bugs, including mosquitoes, spiders, and ants. I had such a bad problem with mosquito bites that I'm still treating them. The insects made sense given the natural setting, but one morning some friends went to the communal kitchen and found a snake. After they killed it, the person in charge said they should be careful because killing one is an environmental crime. That's true, but it was a defensive reaction, especially for those of us from a big city. I'd never seen a snake up close. It looked like the place had once been a proper inn, with a reception desk, what seemed to be a breakfast dining room, and even a guard booth at the entrance. Now it feels like the owner just rents out rooms and everyone is on their own. The lack of preparation was obvious. One couple arrived and waited about 40 minutes at the “reception,” then came to us asking for information. Their room key had just been left on a counter, with nobody there to welcome them or show them around.
