The room itself was good, with a clean, fresh-smelling double bed. The bathroom shower enclosure got stuck and wouldn’t open, so we had to call the doorman for help. It seems like something proper maintenance could fix, especially given the nightly rate. We’d called ahead to book because we were making a short trip to the city where my husband used to live, to take his children back and visit his mother. We arrived at 11 p.m. and left at 9:30 the next morning. The price was quoted by phone and confirmed at reception when we checked in. The amount written on the check-in form matched that quote, but at checkout they charged us much more, saying the night receptionist hadn’t given us the exact price. The woman at the desk called someone I think was the owner, who spoke to my husband by phone. She was very rude and implied we were trying to avoid paying, even though staff had told us the amount due when we checked in. She wanted another 100 reais. The information we got was inconsistent, and the owner’s manner was unpleasant. We could have filed a report and taken it further, but chose to be fair and avoid the same rudeness we’d been shown. The accommodations are good, but in our view they weren’t worth what we were charged for what was really a half-day stay. Future guests should be careful so they don’t go through the same embarrassment.
