Cliffside Luxury Inn

The ridge above the lip of ferradura bay gives this place a fantastic view. Most bedrooms face the sea, and there’s an amazing infinity-edge pool in the common area. Things otherwise ran well, and the owner showed awareness of the problems by proposing fair compensation. Still, I paid too much to deal with issues that fall short of the high-end boutique experience being advertised. Maintenance needs attention: the heating stopped while my wife was showering, took ages to fix, and made us late. The hostess couldn’t give us a timeframe, and repairs were difficult. There was no TV remote, and a door lock was loose. Check-in and check-out flexibility was limited, and guest communication could be better. Nobody asked when we wanted the bedroom tidied, so after breakfast we had to wait outside when we returned. Breakfast also starts too late for early risers, only after 8:30 am.

The views over the ocean and one of Buzios’s best beaches were what I remember most. We stayed in the villa at the very edge of Cliffiside Luxury Inn, with floor-to-ceiling windows on every side and a deck looking out over the water. The sunrises and sunsets were something special. Flowers surrounded the villa, and after seeing the homes along Rua Das Pedras, I still hadn’t found one that compared. The Inn is close to town, with its restaurants and shops, and a great beach is only a few steps down the street, where you can get flavorful seafood from that very beach. Amy, who looks after the Inn for the owner, Suely, made our trip. She’s sweet and fun, knows the best places and people around town, and felt like a secret travel guide the Inn doesn’t advertise on its site. She even found me a great deal on sunglasses. We arrived without plans, and I recommend doing the same: Amy and her husband can show you things you wouldn’t find on google, and point you toward people who can get you good deals at the beach. We had such a good time with them that we invited them to dinner down the street. When we wanted to stay in, there was an infinity pool, a personal hot tub, and hammocks to relax in. The staff worked hard to make our stay special, and the place felt comfortable and homey even though it was clearly a luxury, exclusive hotel. Before we arrived, they asked what we wanted to eat on the way to Buzios. I thought they meant from a menu, but they meant whatever we wanted and they’d make it. The breakfasts had fresh bread, sweets, fruit, and jams. I still think about the jam and the sweet roll with cream. This was the best place we stayed during our 14-day trip in Brazil, with everything from the views to home-cooked meals. We left wishing we’d stayed there the whole time. We want to come back every year and make it “our spot,” and are even thinking of renting the whole place for a family and friends event. I can’t thank Amy enough for making our trip in Buzious so perfect. Thank you to Suely, Amy, and all the staff at the Cliffside Luxury Inn. It was a wonderful way to end our vacation, and we can’t wait to return.
