I was having a great time at this hotel, but a couple of things bothered me. The swimming pool is across the road, and the bigger issue was the service charge. They told me it was mandatory under government rules. I checked on ChatGPT and it said they had to include it on the bill, but I didn’t have to pay it. They quickly changed their story and took the charge off. It was only a small amount and I would’ve paid it, but why lie?

I really enjoyed the massage, and the pool, jacuzzi, and restaurant all have lovely settings. You can even get a nice view from the gym, I think. The staff were professional and warm throughout, and they brought me a birthday cake at breakfast for my 30th. The hotel was immaculate and felt very high standard, and breakfast was especially good. It made my birthday feel magical. A couple of things could be better. The booking had a 10% service charge added. They said it was optional, but I felt awkward about removing it, and I’d never come across that before. It should be included in the price upfront so you know what you’re agreeing to. Also, we upgraded online from a luxury room to a master suite, but that room was small and underwhelming, with a dark little balcony facing a road. It felt more like a standard room. We paid extra to upgrade again, and the room we got after that was amazing, with a pier view.

I liked the thoughtful welcome note, and the room was clean and ready when we arrived. Booking online went smoothly, and the staff were friendly, helpful, and well trained. Some spoke English and Italian, and others could communicate in French and Spanish. The hotel itself is simple and functional, with minimalist decor done in very good taste. The ceramic pieces are real works of art, though sadly they aren't for sale. The pool and jacuzzi are across the street, with a bar staffed by capable people. Other facilities are spread around the property, including access to a strip of sand and a good sauna. There are also sports courts on the fourth level. The main building sits beside a marina deep enough for sailing yachts over 40 feet, with sea access sheltered by an unusual barrier made of large white cement blocks. Breakfast was good, the food matched the hotel's standard, and the price felt fair. Worth a visit.

I could happily return to Arete. I spent a week in this beautiful, fresh, relaxing place, and it’s one of my favorite hotels. It’s about a 20-minute drive from the main area of Buzios, but being in a quiet spot makes the distance worthwhile.
