Top de Buzios Boutique

It was quiet and relaxing, and the breakfast was very good. The hotel and its location were great, and the service was incredibly kind and helpful. We had an amazing stay at Top of Buzios and hope to return soon. Totally recommended!

We were really disappointed after choosing top de buzios based on its great Google reviews. Two hours before arrival, we were told on WhatsApp that our room had been upgraded: we’d stay in a better room until 15/01, then move to another one for the final night. First they said the change was because of the air conditioning, then it was the sewage. We saw people staying in the room we were supposed to have. At reception, the woman who greeted us didn’t know about the room change and seemed completely uninterested, with no smile. We still don’t know her name. The view from our larger room was lovely, but it was dirty and dusty, with dead moths on the floor and a used cup on a piece of furniture. The guesthouse felt abandoned, and the stairs to the room were covered in dust. Breakfast tasted good, and the breakfast attendant was the friendliest. It’s meant to start at 8am, but if you arrive then, things like bread, pão de queijo, or juice may still be missing. The tables and chairs were dirty when we went down. We stayed for a week, and there was a different issue every day. One day we came back from the beach to find no water in our room. I messaged on WhatsApp and the receptionist came to check, then told me she didn’t know if it was fixed and that I should turn on the shower to find out. It still wasn’t working. She called Nilson, who was responsible for the guesthouse. We left without showering, and when we returned, he had fixed it. My husband asked which room we’d move to next, and Nilson said room 1 or 2, smaller rooms without balconies, unlike what we had booked. In the room we were moved to, there was a cockroach and lots of ants. It was our last night, so we didn’t say anything. The pool was dirty. We saw it being cleaned starting Thursday, but it was yellow. The hot tub wasn’t cleaned until Friday. It felt like a real lack of care for people who chose this place for their vacation. We won’t return or recommend it.

What a letdown. We paid way more than what the hotel delivered. There were three couples in three rooms, and the photos didn’t come close to reality. The rooms were old, the pool and hot tub filthy, and almost nothing worked. It felt like an abandoned hotel. My room had spiders and cockroaches popping up all the time, which nearly made me lose it. The air conditioning barely cooled and the shower wouldn’t get hot. The water ran out during our stay, so they had to call a water truck. We got back from the beach at 5pm and water didn’t return until the middle of the night. We were without water over New Year’s Eve. The electricity also kept going out, leaving us in awful heat. A huge disappointment. There were no staff at the hotel over New Year’s Eve. We had to fend for ourselves whenever we needed something, and lost count of how many times we shouted to find anyone. It really seemed abandoned. The one good thing was the view from the pool area, the only thing going for it. The bed linens were very old, with stains and tears, and the towels were awful. I do want to say that the employees were very polite on the few occasions I saw them, though I suppose they were well rested since I hardly ever saw them working. The hotel’s fridge for bottled water didn’t cool it, so the water for sale was always warm. We weren’t given any document or terms explaining our stay, the accommodation rules, or customer support. Breakfast was also a letdown. Everything felt careless, dirty, old, and out of order. I wouldn’t recommend visiting this hotel unless it’s for the health inspection.
