Pousada Tropicália

Great!

The pool area was lovely and really warm, which was the one part I especially enjoyed. The rooms were another story. We booked room 3 for Feb 6-8 after seeing good reviews and hearing they made tapioca and couscous fresh. It took a few steps to reach the room, and it was extremely hot inside. The air conditioner barely cooled the space, especially with a wooden divider between the double bed and single bed. The ceiling was very low, and the showerhead hit my husband's head even though he's not that tall. My husband spoke with Guilherme, the afternoon receptionist. He checked the air conditioner, said the inn was full, adjusted it and asked us to wait a few minutes. When it still wasn't cooling, he moved us to another room. That room was more open and got a little cooler, enough to get through the two days, but it never became properly cold. There were large gaps, including between the bedroom and bathroom, so the air conditioner couldn't keep up. The last two photos show the second room. The rooms at the back look like they might be better. The sheets need replacing. The double bed sheet had stains, and the single bed sheet was very worn, dingy and full of holes. Colored window glass kept much of the daylight out, while the clear bathroom window let in so much light at night that I had to use the floor cloth to block it so I could sleep. Breakfast was very simple, and they were very slow to refill things, though they made the tapioca and couscous fresh.

The staff made a real difference, always helpful and welcoming us with a smile. The breakfast was delicious, plentiful and had plenty of variety. Our room was spotless, roomy, comfortable and just like the booking photos, with thoughtful details that made it feel cozy. The one thing I noticed was that the pool bottom was a little dirty on the day we arrived. It didn't affect our stay, but it's something to keep an eye on. We really enjoyed the pousada, would happily come back, and would recommend it to friends and family. The stay exceeded our expectations and left us with lovely memories.

We stayed for nine days, and the water ran out twice. The sink tap and toilet flush had very little pressure, so we had to brush our teeth in the shower. We also found several big cockroaches in our room. Breakfast at 8 in the morning felt much too late. I didn't enjoy the stay and wouldn't come back to this pousada.
