Pousada Sua Casa

The hardest part was trying to sort things out after I cancelled a prepaid reservation. The owner asked to repay me in three installments, but only sent one, then kept saying he had no money. I suggested other dates, but none worked for him and he offered no ideas to resolve it. He seemed completely unconcerned about owing me. He even said holiday-season rates in Barra had multiplied and what I’d paid was insignificant. I asked him to repay the amount in one go with an adjustment since he was making so much more, but he refused. I wouldn’t recommend it. Dealing with a service that doesn’t keep its word is stressful.

I was embarrassed to bring my family here. On top of the other problems, we had no air conditioning, minibar, emergency lights, and other things. The owner had asked us to pay for all the nights in advance, and let slip that similar issues had happened during rainy periods before. Over our four nights, the pool hadn’t been cleaned on three days, and three breakfasts were mostly sausage in sauce with limited portions and few choices. One night dogs barked outside my door because the pousada’s dog had its food and water right there. We also lost power on two nights in a row. The place is surrounded on three sides by empty lots, with lots of mosquitoes and biting midges. I left in a hurry at 2:30 in the morning, feeling like I was escaping a place full of traps.

I had a great stay here. Everything was just right, and I’d definitely recommend it.

The location felt very safe and was close to some of the prettiest beaches around Maceió. In the room, everything was clean and cozy, with air conditioning and a hot shower. Breakfast was fit for a king, all fresh. There’s a hammock, a pool, and an Alexa to play music.
