Pousada Vale do Café

Really great.

If you enjoy learning about Machado de Assis, his works, and his stories, this is a great place to stay. We also got to hear about the history of the place from the owner and manager, Sr. Edézio. He was kind, welcoming, and very polite, which made the experience especially memorable.

We found the inn on Google Maps, booked by contacting them, and everything was in order when we arrived. We were in Ipiabas for a rock show, and the place was very close to the center. Dona Cristina and her husband were so attentive and unusually warm, they made us feel at home. It was a wonderful stay, and I plan to come back next year.

This 19th-century building and its lovely green grounds make it feel like a trip back in time. Tadeu greeted us warmly and shared stories about the region. Breakfast was served at the table, was satisfying, and everything was fresh. Our room was quite simple but very clean. I’d suggest adding a ceiling fan so guests can choose between that and the regular fan. Even though the area is cool at night, a ceiling fan could help after the room has been closed all day. A curtain on the window in room 2 would also let guests keep the window open with some privacy. The location works well for trips around the area, including Fazenda São João da Prosperidade and Conservatória. I didn’t have a car, and the two bus routes serving the area can take a while, so getting around on public transport requires extra patience. I ordered a pizza from Artesania, which was excellent and arrived at the inn quickly. There are also plenty of options for anyone who likes handicrafts and souvenirs. I’d come back.
