The people at reception do try to be helpful, and they're good folks. The place itself is a disaster. There's no AC, and noise from the reception and other guests is constant. They provide a fan, which feels essential just to manage the heat and noise. The room barely has basic comforts, with only a rudimentary bathroom and no lamp. Don't expect to shower, use the toilet, or sleep properly. Save your money and stay somewhere else. This doesn't feel like a real hotel at all.

The view from our balcony was the part I keep thinking about: sunny harbor, blue water and sky, and green hills. My husband and I ate breakfast there each morning, with wonderful croissants and coffee. Hotel L'Esplanade made our first trip to St. Martin lovely. The hotel is beautiful, and the pool is too. It's set up on a hill, so the surroundings are quiet and the views are gorgeous. Everyone was gracious and helped with questions, restaurant suggestions, taxi bookings, and my special requests. Frank, Alain, and Joanne made tasty drinks and lunch, and were great to talk with. They also gave my friend a complimentary bottle of wonderful French wine for his retirement. We walked to Restaurant Row each evening and loved the food. I'd recommend Rainbow Cafe, Le Bistronome, Ocean 82, and Spiga. We took the shuttle to the beach at Le Petit Hotel, then had lunch at Rainbow Cafe and walked back. The beach chairs at Rainbow Cafe were fantastic. The ScoobyToo catamaran trip to Tintamarre was a real adventure, with a crew that made it feel like a party. We snorkeled and saw a turtle. Now that I'm home watching the snow fall, I'm still carrying that balcony view with me.
