Hotel Metropole

I was completely disappointed and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The photos on Expedia and other sites don't match what I found: it was dirty, and the bathroom had mold. Staff were rude and unhelpful, and I felt ignored whenever I needed help. At check-in, I asked for a bathroom for my father, but the front desk ignored me and he wet his pants. Towels either took a long time to arrive or never came when I asked. The manager was rude and disrespectful. I called a day ahead because I was traveling with my elderly parents and asked whether paying for an extra stay would let me check in early and leave later. They agreed, so I paid and arrived early. But when I asked to check out late, they refused and wanted more money. The manager turned away while I was speaking and did the same when I tried to talk to her again. I left and paid to stay at another hotel. The breakfast was stale and hard, and it seemed like leftovers from previous days were being served. Please don't waste your money here.

For a budget stay of a night or two, this is a decent enough option. The garage they use is around the block, costs extra, and you have to walk back. The rooftop pool has a nice view of the surrounding buildings, and breakfast was adequate, though there weren't many choices. The hotel is very old and close to downtown Belo Horizonte, with rooms that could use renovation. The bed was somewhat comfortable, and the room had decent space and a balcony facing a busy street. Expect noise and people yelling and screaming late at night.

I can't understand how this place has ratings above 4.0. The shower had plenty of space and good pressure, and breakfast was decent, but the rest was rough. The hotel feels ancient and neglected. Our room was tiny and very dirty, with a blackened toilet seat and hairs on the sink and floor. The beds were hard as boards, and the Wi-Fi kept cutting in and out until it was practically useless. The downtown location wasn't nearly as good as other reviewers made it sound. The security issue was especially worrying. Staff gave us a key to a room that was already occupied, with the guests' belongings still inside. We locked it up and returned the key to get another room, but someone else could have used that mistake to steal.

It was okay.
