Sul America Palace Hotel

The location made it easy to explore Belo Horizonte, and there were Uber cars and taxis right outside. The rooms were clean and tidy, breakfast was nice, and the staff were friendly and helpful, including supervisor Amado and receptionist Luciano. It’s a good basic hotel in a charming old building dating from 1929. We’d stay again, but would ask for a room at the back to avoid the street noise and music.

The shower gave me electric shocks through the metal tap. When I reported it, the staff already seemed to know, and their fix was to wrap the tap in black electrical tape. That’s completely unacceptable, and someone could get seriously hurt. I complained several times about the WiFi, but nothing changed. The breakfast was the only decent part, and the staff were kind, but management clearly doesn’t care about safety or the guest experience. The place may look all right at first, but it’s badly outdated: no WiFi in 2025, no high-speed internet, no WhatsApp booking, and a TV that looks like it’s from 1970. They haven’t invested in updates. If you care about your safety, health, or having a basic internet connection, stay away from América Sul Hotel.

It’s cheap and right in central BH, so the location may work if that’s what matters most. But the room is tiny, the WiFi is very unreliable, and you can hear a lot from the busy street because the hotel doesn’t block much of the noise. The staff don’t speak English. From CNF, the city centre is about 40 km away, so a taxi costs over R$100. You might want to look for a shuttle or bus instead.

The room was good, and the people were very polite. It’s relatively inexpensive, though the breakfast wasn’t as good as it looked in the pictures. The location can feel a little dangerous at night.
