Hostel 70

A terrible stay. I went with my college group for two days, and the power went out three times during those two days. The first outage happened while I was covered in soap in the shower. Since it was electric, I had to wait 30 minutes to disconnect the wiring, and I was freezing. The showers and bathrooms are shared by men and women, and the shower stalls have no locks. The hostel can't handle as many guests as it claims to accommodate, and the cleaning was so bad that some of my friends had rhinitis attacks. The rooms are small, and the lockers are tiny. You have to bring your own lock, and they fit a regular bag, not a suitcase. Other things happened too. Those two days were really disappointing, and I won't go back. Some hostels charge much less for better quality, while this one costs more and delivers poor quality.

The hostel is centrally located, the staff are friendly, and the room cleaning is okay. But if you can spend a little more, I'd stay somewhere else. The kitchen was very poorly cleaned, and the utensils and appliances were in very bad shape. Breakfast wasn't decent, so we had to buy food at the market every day. The shuttle didn't stick to its schedule and felt more like a ride with someone. They turned on the radio without asking guests if that was okay. My trip to Belo Horizonte was awful: the radio was loud, and the hostel owner's friend came along for the ride and talked nonstop the whole way. I don't recommend this place, especially because of the poor kitchen and utensil hygiene.

The staff were great, attentive, helpful, and friendly. Our room for 10 felt cramped, though, and the bunk beds were low. There were sheets and a blanket, and the room was well ventilated and cool. The location is handy, close to the shopping street. The bathroom wasn't good: it's outside the house, and the shower had weak water pressure. We also had trouble with the gate key. After 10 pm, you enter with the key they give you, since there is no reception, but ours wouldn't open the gate at all. We had to ring the doorbell and ask someone to let us in.

We arranged a group trip of 36 people, and they assured us the hostel could accommodate everyone. When we arrived, the staff looked shocked by our numbers, since they clearly weren't prepared for the group. In our room, the fan didn't work, the suite toilet lid was loose, and the toilet in the six-person room was leaking. The Wi-Fi also didn't work properly. Two people couldn't come. The booking penalty was part of the terms, but they still wanted to charge their nightly rate too, even though they weren't there. The shuttle to Inhotim was a car that fit four people, while two others were put in the trunk. They also didn't have a copy of the Consumer Defense Code. If you're thinking of visiting this hostel as a group, don't.
