Vila do Sossego

André was a hospitable host and gave us tips on local outings. My family and I had a relaxing, enjoyable stay at Vila do Sossego, which felt like an ideal spot in Cabo Frio. I work in hospitality too, and if you're looking for a quiet retreat from the bustle of Cabo Frio, this is a great place.

We stayed at this house with my family from 28/12/23 to 02/01/24. I know accommodation in RJ isn't cheap over New Year's, but we paid more than 6,000 reais for a three-bedroom house advertised for up to 14 people. There were nine adults, two children, and one baby in our group. We arrived at the agreed time after a 12-hour trip, exhausted, with my baby feeling sick, and then waited outside for 30 minutes. The owner wouldn't let us in until he confirmed the full payment had come through. Only one of the bedrooms had a plastic curtain. The rooms had ceiling fans, but one made such an unbearable noise that it was impossible to sleep with it on. The windows needed maintenance and wouldn't close, as shown in the attached pictures, which made us nervous about leaving the house empty. The bathroom was deplorable, with a poorly designed, worn sink and faucet. On some days we had cold showers and had to contact the owner to get the hot water turned on. On our first day, we were also told the water might run out, and that we could pay an extra fee to get water again. In RJ's heat, after the beach, we only took one shower a day, sometimes cold, while worrying about the water supply. It was upsetting. There were very few outlets, and I couldn't find a single one in the bedroom where I slept. I don't recommend this place.

There was no outlet in the bedroom, and they turn off the water to stop people using it. The room was tiny, measuring 2.50 cm by 2.50 cm, even though they say it sleeps six. We weren't even allowed to use an iron. Sometimes we had to leave without brushing our teeth or taking a shower because there was never any water, and they still charge R$15 if we ask for water. The parking garage was bad too, we had to keep asking other people to move their cars. I'm not coming back.

We stayed at Vila do Sossego from 27/12/17 to 03/01/18, me, my wife, and our two children. Everything went well and matched what we expected. The contract had been sent in advance, so we already knew what the property offered, and it was all as described. The location was handy for visiting both Cabo Frio and Búzios, and the place was genuinely quiet, good for resting after a day at the beach. The owners were very friendly and quick to help. We asked for a fan and got one right away. I needed a stronger internet signal to finish some work on my laptop, so Sr. André took me to his office. With Cabo Frio prices being so high, especially for New Year's Eve, the property was good value for us, and they let us pay in installments that fit our budget. There were some downsides: the Wi-Fi signal was very weak and only worked in certain spots around the property. The bathroom was tiny, with the toilet right up against the shower. There weren't many outlets, which made charging our phones difficult, and there were no curtains, so the sun coming through the many windows woke us early. Taking the price and payment plan into account, the positives outweighed the negatives for us. Sr. André is still investing in improvements there, so we're sure Vila do Sossego will be five stars next time we stay.
