I’m French and can be pretty critical, as the whole “nothing is perfect” mindset suggests. But honestly, this was one of the most marvelous places I’ve ever stayed. My French fiancé and I wanted one last poetic night in Minas Gerais to end our road trip well, and Pousada Canto da Lua felt just right. We stayed in the Cedar Lodge. Thales welcomed us and told us about his family and how the pousada came to be. They built everything themselves. The lodges are highly sustainable and tastefully decorated with old wood, reused windows, handmade signs, and more. We were already delighted as soon as we arrived. It’s the second-highest pousada, and there’s a special deck where we watched the sunset. The sounds of nature and the mountains changing color were breathtaking. We spent part of the night there too, looking at the stars and admiring the moon. The night was relaxing, and we were looking forward to waking up somewhere so peaceful. Thales brought us a wonderful breakfast: fresh coffee and juice, fruit, local specialties, and homemade treats. We loved eating outside in the first rays of sunshine, as the sun climbed higher. Thales and Ana Paula were so kind. They shared their story, really connected with us, and gave us great advice about hikes and cachoeiras. We were heartbroken to leave so soon, and only wished we’d stayed longer. If we return to Carrancas, we know where to go. Pousada Canto da Lua is a hidden gem, and we feel lucky to have experienced it. If you’re looking for somewhere poetic, romantic, peaceful, whimsical, and authentic, this is the place.

We stayed in November 2025, and you could feel the care in every detail. The cabins were built with love and history by the owners, and breakfast was served in our room, lovingly prepared with things they made right there. The decor made every corner feel welcoming, and the quiet woods seemed to speak to us. The property’s lookout took our breath away and calmed our souls. We didn’t just stay there, we felt cared for. Thank you, Thales, for looking after us from our first contact through the end of our stay. We’ll be back!

There are charming outdoor spots for relaxing, enjoying the view, having a glass of wine, and spending some quality time. The scenery from up high is beautiful, and the cabin itself is delicate and lovely, decorated with beautiful pieces made by the host. Thales and Paula welcomed us warmly from the moment we made the reservation and took great care with both the cabin and the service. The towels were large and comfortable, everything was clean, and the bed was cozy. Breakfast was a delight. Paula’s treats tasted homemade with love, were delicious, and felt as natural as possible. We had an extremely relaxing, pleasant stay.

We came back to Carrancas after about two years, and this second visit confirmed it: Thales, Paula, and Rodrigo make Canto da Lua a special place. On our first trip, we wondered if we’d loved it so much because we were newlyweds. That wasn’t it. We left with a friendship and the feeling that Thales and Paula are truly special people. The cabins are comfortable, private, and peaceful, just right if you need a break from routine. Everything was spotless, with soft, lovely-smelling towels. The hosts decorated the space with their own handmade crafts and materials. And the view from the window really does make you want to stay here. Breakfast is simple but done perfectly. It comes in a basket, not as a buffet, with plenty of small portions and enough variety for our stay. The coffee was always properly brewed, and Paula made excellent cakes and other treats. There was also homemade jam and a little requeijão or butter. We didn’t miss anything at breakfast on any of the days. They now offer made-to-order dishes too. We tried a few, and they were well worth it for both flavor and value. There’s open air, lots of trees, a breathtaking view, and plenty of room to clear your head and get grounded. This is a corner of Carrancas we’ll want to return to again and again.

We spent three days here and came away feeling completely renewed. The experience was wonderful, though we wished we’d stayed at least four days so we could explore Carrancas at a slower pace and enjoy Canto da Lua a little longer. Thales and his family were very welcoming, and they gave us great suggestions for outings based on how much time we had. The pousada is beautiful, with a wonderful view and a fantastic sunset you can watch right there. It really feels like a place to disconnect from daily life and find some peace in nature. Our expectations for the cabin were exceeded. It was extremely clean, cozy, and tastefully done. Breakfast was very good, with homemade items like yogurt, cake, and fresh juice. We also recommend dinner from the pousada. We had the Ragu de maminha, and it was delicious.
