Hotel Nikko

Curitiba’s streets give way to what feels like Japan as soon as you enter the lobby, complete with a koi pond. The hotel is extremely clean, and I stayed in both suites, one very traditional and the other modern. The staff are very professional, and at least one person speaks flawless English. Absolutely worth staying here.

The rooms are good and the beds are great, though I wished there were one more outlet for my phone charger. Breakfast was very good, with a nice variety of food. The location is good, too. They offer lots of services, but I didn’t get a chance to use them.

The beds were comfortable and warm, housekeeping was very efficient, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It’s well kept and handy for a budget stay, with a great shower and very hot water. Noise can be a problem, though. You can hear the hard floors above, the pool area below, and the lift outside some bedroom doors from around 6am. There’s very little room for clothes, just two small drawers and a few hangers. There’s nowhere to keep a suitcase off the floor, so the clothes left inside can get damp.

The WiFi works excellently on every floor, and although most employees don’t speak English, they’re very helpful. Google Translate goes a long way. Hotel Nikko is centrally located and a good base for visiting Curitiba. The rooms are a decent size, nothing fancy by European standards, but properly cleaned. The shower head is fixed, which can be inconvenient if you’re tall or trying to set the temperature.
