Hotel Montanhas De Minas

Diamantina itself was wonderful. We had lovely, rewarding outings to waterfalls, Vila do Biribiri, Serro Milho Verde, and São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras, and those experiences made the trip special. The lodging, though, was a big disappointment and we wouldn’t recommend it. The only real plus at the hotel was the location. Our room was large, but the bathtub couldn’t be used because the jacuzzi was closed, and it gave off a very strong sewage smell that made the room unpleasant. There were two pieces of wood inside the safe, apparently placed there to prevent anyone from using it. The lighting was very poor, especially by the mirror, which was in a dark corner and made even basic makeup impossible. The balcony light was burned out. The toilet was wobbly, and water pooled by the shower drain. Getting to the room meant climbing a lot of stairs. Any time we needed reception, we had to go down and back up because there was no room phone with a direct line. The TV didn’t work properly because there was no antenna signal. The Wi-Fi details on the sticker behind the remote were wrong for both the network and the password, causing more hassle. They also weren’t clear about parking. The hotel has only three spaces, used on a rotating basis. If you take your car out and someone else parks there, your car ends up on the street. Before we arrived, we had booked another hotel in the chain through Booking. The hotel team then contacted us on WhatsApp and persuaded us to cancel and book directly with them instead. They promised a different hotel closer to the historic center, with a better, larger room and a wonderful breakfast. They built up expectations that weren’t met. Breakfast was a further letdown, very repetitive, with several kinds of ring-shaped pastries all made from the same dough and just shaped differently, and very little variety. After all the staff’s promotion of it, the experience fell well short of what we expected. After those promises, it felt as if they were just trying to get us to cancel through Booking and book with them directly.

It’s a pleasant place to stay, with polite, attentive staff and a very good breakfast. It looks small at first, but extends back with lots of rooms. There’s a pool area, and the rooms come in different types, some with little balconies, a hydro pool, or more basic setups.

Anderson was very helpful and attentive from the start, and the whole hotel team was just as thoughtful. The rooms were clean, breakfast was very good, and both the pool and barbecue area were good too. A thousand out of a thousand!

The room was clean, and reception was attentive and helpful. Breakfast was ordinary, though some serving items were missing, and the garage only fits four cars. The rooms have little privacy, you can hear everything said in the corridor.
