Casa da Laninha

The kitchen is really well equipped, and there are three supermarkets nearby, which is essential on the island. The location is superb, and the inn is spotless, quiet, well equipped, and has a lovely atmosphere. The rooms are fine and the bathroom was okay, though we noticed a strange smell coming from somewhere. Staff were friendly throughout, the Wi-Fi worked well, and there are pleasant common areas to relax in. Excellent value for money.

Laninha is someone I hope never to encounter again. She ruined my last night in Noronha. Cleaning was scheduled for alternate days, but when it fell on a Sunday she simply didn’t clean, leaving us without housekeeping for two days. We came back from the beach and had to dry ourselves with our dirty towels. A note said we’d need to return a missing hand towel before getting replacements. It felt like she was accusing us of taking it to the beach, even though the first time towels were replenished we only got two bath towels and one small washroom towel. She should have left clean towels and asked us about the hand towel afterward, but she didn’t replace them. When I tried to talk to her, she just left me talking to myself. If you want to be disrespected, stay at this pousada.

What she promised was all there, plus a little extra. Her kindness and warmth made for peaceful, happy days. I really recommend it!

We were a family of four in two apartments at Laninha’s for eight days, and the complete lack of hospitality from her and the team made us feel like we were imposing. She spoke to me only six or seven times in all those days, and three of those were to point out things we’d supposedly done wrong: leaving the air conditioning on, using the foot wash to clean beach things and wet ourselves when she said it used too much water and there was no body shower, and closing a difficult kitchen cupboard with my leg. She never asked if we were okay or needed anything, or offered tips. She and her family live on the property, and the place felt much more like an Airbnb than an inn. She and the team don’t seem suited to hosting guests. The kitchen was hot, several appliances were dirty, the cupboard had termites and left dust on the plates, and a lot of things were rusty. We cooked several times but didn’t enjoy using the kitchen. After I broke a water glass and messaged Laninha on WhatsApp, they sent me a contract saying I’d pay for anything we damaged. Then she immediately removed the other three similar glasses from the kitchen, saying they were dirty, even though we washed and used them several times a day. It felt very unfriendly. There were signs all over the pousada with reminders like no smoking, turn off the lights, and close the door. It felt like a barracks full of basic rules. We went in July, booked two rooms, and didn’t see another guest during our eight days there. After our time on the island, it seemed clear to us that some locals are colder and less courteous to tourists, though most join in with the tourism atmosphere and leave a good impression. Laninha was in the first group for us. We absolutely do not recommend this pousada. There are many better options on the island.
