Esquina 8 Hostel

The host was really grumpy, and the place had no atmosphere. The rooms had no windows and were noisy.

The shared patio was lovely, covered and looking out over the street, with bars, restaurants, and shops nearby. Staff were friendly, too. The place has a lot of promise, though it still feels unfinished. After booking, we were asked for an email because check-in was online. We sent it and followed up several times, but got no email or reply. Luckily, someone was there when we arrived, so it wasn’t a problem. Our room was a small twin with bunk beds, which seemed fair for the very low price. There were no drawers, shelves, or hooks, so we had to pile everything on the floor. The lighting was awful, just one very bright bare bulb. It seems like work is still underway, and it should be great once finished.

Everyone in Florianópolis seemed open minded and honest. The people here were especially helpful and friendly, and were kind about my situation when I arrived early. I plan to keep coming back.

I guess the many plants are why there are insects. When I said on Booking that I wasn’t happy about them, I was insulted in Portuguese. Maybe the plants should be replaced with plastic ones, or the hotel could be made clear as a place for insect lovers and entomologists.
