Mar e Mar Florianópolis

Set back in an alley among nice residences, the hotel is quiet and well appointed. It was the best hotel of our whole visit, with friendly, helpful people and easy access to restaurants and the beach. I’d definitely come back.

I couldn’t decide between two or three stars, but I’ll go with two because a few things felt potentially dangerous. There were some good points: the staff were pleasant, the facilities clean, and there were plenty of free parking spaces. There was also a separate smoking area, and the rooms were bigger than they looked online. The price was welcoming, and the neighborhood had a charming path nearby with lots of options for spending time. Messages on WhatsApp got quick replies, and a staff member helped us quickly too. But my wife and I were greeted by a kind staff member with a child, about six years old, who wasn’t wearing a mask. All the remote batteries were dead, for both the TV and air conditioner, and the air-conditioning heat was out during a night of 5-10°C. Our shower was cold too, though they managed to fix it. At breakfast there was no hand sanitizer, no line, and no floor markings to help guests keep a proper distance. I had to politely ask one guest to put his forgotten mask back on. Some people kept going to the self-service table without masks and handled the silverware and food with bare hands. No staff were watching these poor health conditions, and I saw the cook chopping ham without a mask. I decided to leave. The parking gate was never closed, so anyone wandering by could get to the cars. It didn’t seem safe at all.

The bedrooms are clean, the price is affordable, and breakfast is great 👍

Simple, but practical.
