Shiva Guest House

Sabrina and her family were so attentive, and we felt safe throughout our stay. The place has a magical feel, with comfortable, spacious, well-equipped rooms. We especially loved having our own independence there. Thanks so much! Nico and Mai, from Uruguay.

The bed was unbelievably comfortable, and the tub was lovely. Just watch your bare feet around the water on the floor. Our Shiva chalet was clean, smelled great, and had decorations and waterfall music ready for us. Sabrina was welcoming and polite, and made sure we had everything we needed. It's close to everything, including the beach. We’ll definitely come back to try the other rooms. ❤️

The room with the hydro tub and the deck with a hammock are easy to recommend. We spent a few days at Shiva, combining a symposium with our anniversary, and the place felt romantic, cozy, spacious, clean, and very well cared for. Thanks to the hosts for making it so special. You’ve gained two fans, and we’d love to return whenever we can.

The quiet at this place was striking, even during Carnival. Most of what we heard was birdsong, and the stay was a really positive one. The price is high, but in line with lodging in Floripa. If you have the money for it, it can feel like a treat for yourself and a good investment. The room is chalet-style, large, with a high ceiling and a huge, soft double bed. It was very comfortable, with good blankets and pillows, though at 86 (lol) I had some back pain after two days because the mattress sank under me. The bathroom is spacious, with two sinks, a hot shower, and a little line for wet clothes. The tub was clean and new, but take care when switching it on and filling it. There’s also a small kitchen with a mini fridge, a candance electric coffee maker, a toaster, a small dishwashing sink, and two tables with chairs, handy if you want to make breakfast in the room. The curtains didn’t keep out the morning light completely, though the video softened it and it didn’t bother my eyes. There are two eye masks in the room as another option. Getting upstairs means using a spiral staircase. It’s manageable, but I’m nervous on those and know that’s a common fear, so keep it in mind. The Barra da Lagoa location is especially convenient. Shiva Guest is in the Barra da Lagoa area, a little beyond Lagoa da Conceição, with Praia Mole and Barra da Lagoa beaches nearby. Small markets, breakfast spots within a walk of less than 10 minutes, and seafood restaurants are also close. Their prices seemed moderately accessible for the amount of food. Since we went during Carnival, traffic was worth watching. The road to the inn isn’t divided, and around 4 pm, when people were leaving the beach, traffic down toward Barra da Lagoa - Centro got pretty backed up. Heading uphill toward Barra da Lagoa was easier. There are two bus stops very close to the road outside. Buses were useful when Ubers seemed to disappear around beach travel times, perhaps because drivers didn’t want the traffic or were on the north side of the island. They ran regularly and helped us get back near home from farther away. In Feb/2020 the fare was R$ 4,25, and I think the route was 320, but it’s best to confirm. The owners live on site and are very easygoing and approachable. We arrived before check-in and didn’t find them easily at home, and they weren’t always in sight. I later realized it’s best to text or call if you need something, and they respond promptly.
