Well, here goes. This hotel is really bad. There’s no room service, the beds and sheets are poor, outlets are coming loose, a ceiling light is hanging loose, and there’s a rat moving around in the ceiling. The faucet and shower drip too. That’s just the basic list of room problems. Breakfast was skimpy, with little bread and only two kinds of fruit. The plates and cups were dirty, and some of the snack food with mayonnaise was left out of the fridge. There was also a specific incident with a guy wandering around inside the Pousada, drunk and on drugs. The owners had apparently allowed him to stay on the terrace, but he was saying he’d kill someone if the police showed up. We told the owners, and they said they weren’t going to do anything and had let him sleep up there. How is that acceptable? My room also had no key, and there was just one card for all the rooms. If you went out, you had to ask at reception to have someone come lock the door, then ask reception again to come unlock it.

The night receptionist was attentive and helped with the door, which wouldn’t close and wouldn’t open with the card. The room was stuffy, smelled bad in the bathroom, and hadn’t been cleaned properly: the previous guest’s things were still there and the trash was still in the bin. On the second night I asked to move to a room with a front-facing window. Some issues were fixed, but there were new ones: a torn sheet and two German cockroaches.

I paid for this Pousada reservation in advance, but when I arrived, the accommodation was nothing like what the catalog and promotional photos had shown. The rooms were dirty, the beds were in terrible shape, the walls had mold, and the bathroom was in poor condition. There was even an abandoned mattress in the hallway. The whole place felt neglected and badly maintained, so I feel the advertised offer wasn’t honored and the promotion was misleading.

The owner seems focused on making money and doesn’t keep up with maintenance. There were exposed wires, the place was filthy and smelled like sewage, and there were no towels. The sheets were poor quality and hadn’t been changed. This is a place to avoid.
