Hotel Castelo Branco

I’m giving it five stars for the easy access and location. We didn’t stay there this time, but maybe next time if we get an invitation.

The staff were quite friendly, and they do try to sort out problems. Still, the place wasn’t pleasant to stay in. The facilities were filthy, from the rooms to the shared areas, and the pool was in complete disrepair. They serve food, but it was sometimes cold and the portions were small. I really wouldn’t recommend it.

Calling this place “The worst hotel in Iguaçu” would fit. Everything about it was awful. We booked a package through a travel agency and spent three days with filthy blankets, a shower that wouldn’t heat up, and a leaking air conditioner. Their fix for the leak was a bucket. Breakfast was no better: dirty utensils, dry bread, and cold coffee. The staff were as rude and ill-mannered as they could be. The photos here look like they were probably taken ten years ago.

I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone, not even an enemy. We stayed six days, and the problems started with the beds: there was no double bed, just two very hard single mattresses tied together. We asked for a replacement and got another pair tied together. Absurd. The bath towels had stains that looked like feces. When I asked reception to replace them, they said they saw no reason to do so just because of stains. Completely disrespectful. The room wasn’t cleaned every day, and when it was, fresh towels weren’t left. We had to keep asking for them. We sometimes felt Brazilian tourists weren’t welcome. The staff treated us disrespectfully, and 90% of the guests were Paraguayan. Even the TV in the lobby only showed Paraguayan channels, which made it seem like people of other nationalities weren’t wanted. Breakfast started at 8, but by 9 there was no bread left. The cold cuts smelled bad, so we stuck to plain coffee, papaya, and melon to avoid a nasty surprise. One day the cake was moldy. I booked the package through @decolar, which surprised me because I’d always thought Decolar was very good. After this awful stay at Castelo Branco de Foz do Iguaçu, I’ll be more careful even when booking through Decolar.
