Vivaz Cataratas Hotel & Resort

We booked four nights for a group of 13, a mix of Argentine and American citizens traveling together. The Argentine travelers entered Brazil without trouble, but the Americans were turned away because of visa requirements we'd never been told about. Vivaz Cataratas knew our nationalities during booking, yet never notified us, warned us, or even suggested that U.S. citizens needed visas to enter Brazil. We weren't asking the hotel to handle immigration paperwork, but basic guest care should include flagging a critical requirement for a large international group. When we contacted the hotel, the response was cold, dismissive, and nearly accusatory. They questioned what had happened and showed no sympathy or willingness to help, only robotic enforcement of policy. We had to cancel and lost 50% of our deposit, a significant financial loss that a simple warning could have prevented. For a resort that markets itself to international guests, this indifference is astonishing. This wasn't just poor service; it felt inhumane, unprofessional, and exploitative. Policies shouldn't outweigh basic decency when guests are stranded by preventable miscommunication. International travelers, especially those from the U.S., shouldn't trust this hotel to look out for them. Vivaz Cataratas seems more concerned with keeping your money than caring for its guests. We'll never book there again, and strongly advise others to think twice.

I spent two months traveling around Brazil and felt more comfortable and cared for in cheap accommodations, where hosts treated guests personally. Some provided water and internet, which are more useful than a towel. For a five-star hotel, it's strange that the Wi-Fi doesn't reach your room and there's no water served for guests. People value more than just a pool; small things make you feel looked after. The infrastructure also seems old in places and isn't very well maintained.

The pool feels like a family campground, with kids jumping around without a care despite the restrictions, while staff do nothing. The hotel is dated, with old rooms facing the street, and the spa is needlessly expensive: 300 reai for a poorly done massage. Stay away.

The family wing was given to a group of teenagers who disrupted everyone by shouting, banging on doors, and making loud jokes in the hallway. The service itself was excellent, and the food was better than at other resorts nearby. Luis, Claudio, and Wagner at the bar gave outstanding service. The recreação team is amazing and treats kids well.
