Villa Dos Ganchos

Great.

The staff were very helpful whenever we asked for cleaning, information, or breakfast refills. The inn's private little beach was wonderful, with its own chairs and umbrellas. The cabins sit among the trees, so it's calm and quiet, with only the surrounding animals to hear. Breakfast was average: plenty of fresh fruit, but nothing beyond the usual everyday food. Getting around the property had some real drawbacks. The steep, one-way road has several curves, and if another car is coming the other way, one of you has to reverse all the way to the refuge. Those maneuvers felt dangerous. It would be safer if the road were wide enough for two cars. The upper cabins, Estrela and Concha, are reached by a long staircase with steep, risky steps. Heavy rain would make it very hard to leave the chalet, and the Wi-Fi doesn't reach those cabins.

The inn is very pretty, with a spacious room and a lovely reserved beach for guests, plus good umbrellas and chairs. But the access ramp is extremely steep and only wide enough for one vehicle. If one car is going down while another is coming up, it causes a lot of trouble. A signal light there is really needed. The location means you can't go out for walks or outings on foot, so you have to drive every time, including when you want to eat. It is close to larger beaches like Palmas, which is a plus. In the room there was space for drying clothes, but nowhere to hang them, and I really missed having hooks. Breakfast could be better too, with fresher food kept covered against flies, and a toaster would be nice. At checkout, we were charged for the bath salts for the ofurô, even though the room costs more because it has one. The water that fills it is rainwater and has a slight smell. I don't think there should be a charge for the salts, or there should at least be a notice beside the ofurô with the instructions for use.

We booked from 11/01 to 14/01, but when we got there, nobody was at reception. The place seemed abandoned and neglected. The approach was alarming: a very steep, one-way road used by cars coming and going, as well as pedestrians. With curves and no visibility of an approaching car, it felt extremely dangerous. No one told us when we booked that reaching the rooms up top involved so many stairs, with high, hazardous steps. The rooms were dirty and smelled of mold and urine, like the place had been deserted. Breakfast was awful, just coffee, milk, cheese, and ham, and the bread seemed days old, not fresh at all. I wouldn't recommend this inn to anyone. 🙄
