Sleep Inn Guarulhos

Bed bug bites ruined my trip. I stayed one night before a 6 a.m. flight to Belo Horizonte last Thursday. A few hours after arriving in BH, my elbows started itching and bumps appeared. I wasn’t completely sure what they were at first, but by the next morning my arms, neck, waist, and legs were covered in what looked like bed bug bites. I don’t speak Portuguese, so I had to urgently contact my doctor remotely for advice and go to a drugstore to get the recommended medicine. My arms and legs looked like they had a sexually transmitted disease. I contacted the hotel, and they said management would get back to me shortly. It’s been five days and nobody has contacted me. Don’t take the risk. At my second hotel, I had to wash everything I could in hot water.

The room wasn’t very big, but it worked fine for us since we chose the place for its very convenient location close to the airport. Everything was great, very clean, and the staff were nice. Service from the restaurant staff was outstanding.

I felt unsafe enough that I barricaded my door with furniture and left my computer recording. I’m a frequent traveler and have stayed in hotels around the world, but nothing like this has happened to me before. The problem was a young male employee who first knocked on my door just minutes after I entered, saying the hotel wanted to bring breakfast because I had an “early flight.” That wasn’t true: my flight was at 10:35 a.m., and breakfast starts at 6:00 a.m. I politely declined. A few minutes later he called my room, first offering another bottle of water, then asking for my Instagram, complimenting my appearance, and saying he wanted to keep in touch. It was highly unprofessional and made me feel unsafe. LATAM had rebooked me at Sleep Inn Guarulhos after I missed a connection. I arrived around 11:20 p.m., after the restaurant had closed. It does operate during regular business hours, but that late the only options were bottled water and a packaged sandwich from the convenience area, which was disappointing after a long day of travel. The entrance was under construction, and my Uber driver had to circle around to make sure we were at the right place. My room was clean, but the bed was low, small, and hard, so it was uncomfortable to rest. Check-in was quick, but this experience was unacceptable. No traveler should have to deal with harassment or feel unsafe in a hotel, especially one provided by an airline during an already stressful trip. I can’t recommend it, particularly for solo travelers. Safety and professionalism should come first.

The rooms were okay for one night and definitely more comfortable than sleeping at the airport, but we booked this place for a short stay mainly because we expected an easy, regular, free airport shuttle, as the website promised. It took a long time to figure out which bus to take. The shuttle only runs once an hour, and you have to wait at the shuttle and bus station for one marked “Sleep Inn” to pass. The ride itself was only about 10 minutes. But when we told reception we needed a transfer at 5 a.m., we were told every shuttle until 8 a.m. was full and we’d have to pay for a taxi. Since the free shuttle was a main reason we booked, that was really upsetting.
