Ilha Palace Hotel

The staff were very good, but the facilities were a real letdown. I had a bad stay in the city because of this lodging. The bathroom was extremely dirty and stained, with a neglected look, and I even found a cockroach. The beds were damaged, the outlets didn’t work, and my phone ran out of battery. The television was broken too.

The breakfast was really poor, with overripe watermelon and stale crackers. We asked reception about the television, and the very kind woman tried to fix it but couldn’t. It didn’t work. For what they offer, the room rate was expensive. It was a disappointing stay, and I don’t recommend it.

The employees were polite and kind, and they’re the best thing about the hotel. They deserve a 10. The rest was awful. My first room had no window and smelled like cigarettes. I asked to switch and got a room with a window, but it still smelled of cigarettes and mold. Water had swollen the bathroom cabinet, and it stank of mold. The wall covering was covered in slime. The freezer in the minibar was so full of ice that even a 500 ml bottle wouldn’t fit. The TV had just four channels, and the air conditioner was noisy. Outside noise from the water heating system was bothersome too. Some guests kept their music loud until late, past 11 p.m.

We were disappointed when we compared the current place with the photos on the website. It was nothing like the pictures shown on Google, and the experience was awful. There were no sheets, and the cleaning was terrible. The dining area had no air conditioning and was full of tiny mosquitoes and flies. The food was old, left out in the open without protection. This place deserves to be shut down by the health authorities.
