The natural setting is beautiful, but the place felt wild and had no real infrastructure, which made me sad. I was very frustrated because the hotel looked much nicer in the pictures. It was dirty, and the shower was awful.

The staff were cheerful and helpful, and the service was really good. The pousada is in the best location in Barra, and everything impressed me in a good way. It’s very well cared for, from the rooms to the garden. Everything looked fresh and new, including the paint and the clean, fresh smelling linens. The furniture was in good shape, with none of the musty smell or rusty things you often find in pousadas by the sea. I strongly recommend it.

Our stay at Pousada Barra Mar was far below what we expected. We were the only guests, and several services had been cut back without warning: the restaurant was closed for lunch, there was no room service, and breakfast was very limited. The pool was dirty and had no umbrella because of construction work, and maintenance noise started at 7 a.m. We found cockroaches in the room, felt unsafe at night, and a bag of dirty clothes went missing. We asked to leave early, but our refund was refused. We don't recommend it.
