Praia Hotel Imbituba

The staff were very friendly, the service was good, and there are great amenities. I also appreciated the more secluded beach and the complimentary towels, chairs, and some umbrellas for guests. My stay this time was positive overall, but Room 207 had a strong urine smell, much worse than the other rooms. With the hotel so close to the ocean, a little mustiness seems understandable, but that room's odor was far beyond that.

At $105 per person, this was far too much for the condition of the place. Maybe it was better a few years ago, but the maintenance and current state are poor. I wouldn't recommend it to EU citizens. The food wasn't acceptable. The meat came either overcooked, black, and smelling of old oil, or raw with blood. Staff asked for a 10% tip for “service” whether or not the client was satisfied. The fruit was okay, though. The room was cold in October, with tile floors, painted walls, and lots of insects coming in each evening. The air conditioner was noisy and right above your head while sleeping. There was an awful smell inside, possibly from the bed linen and old pillows, and the spare blankets were stained. Wi-Fi was weak. The sockets didn't fit EU plugs, there was no soft bedside light, just two bright lamps fixed to the wall at 1.5 m facing a large mirror that blinded you. The magnetic key took five attempts to open the door. I don't know who writes positive reviews about this hotel, maybe locals.

I was there for business, but had a great time. The staff were the best I've ever seen at a hotel, friendly, helpful, and really good at their jobs. Arthur and the tattooed guy in the restaurant were especially great, though I don't know the other guy's name. The young man in the sauna area was helpful and cheerful too. Everything was very good, thank you.

The beach near the hotel is great, and the breakfast was about average, the only average thing here. I was there for one business night, and wouldn't expect too much. The rooms are spacious but dirty, and the sheets and pillows were old and smelly, so I used my T-shirt as a pillow cover.
