We booked five nights at Itacaré Eco Resort for a family holiday in Bahia, paying R$ 2.750 by PIX directly to the resort, half of the total price of nearly 1.100 reais per night. Booking was cheaper, but we trusted the resort. No voucher ever arrived. The day before our flight, the same reservations department couldn’t find our booking right away. Worried, we checked reviews on Google, Booking, reclame aqui, and tripadvisor, and found them all very negative. We asked to cancel more than seven days before check-in because we didn’t want to risk a disappointing stay. The cancellation policy wasn’t clear. Based on older information we found online, we thought a full refund should apply, but the reservations employee said they could only return 50 percent or let us use the amount already paid for fewer nights. I called the owner, who handles the finances. She said she was on the road and would call back, but never did. The reservations employee also tried to get an answer from her and got no response. To avoid losing the trip, we booked somewhere better and planned to stay at the resort for just one night on our way by rental car to Maraú. We asked if the unused balance for the three nights could be put toward food and drinks, but they wouldn’t allow it. We explained we had another hotel and still hadn’t heard back about the cancellation refund. When we checked out, the reservations employee showed up, refused to apply our R$ 250 in food and drink charges against the R$ 1.650 they had earned from our nights, and said we had to stay at least three days. I’m from another state and can’t pursue a collective action for consumers in Bahia without incurring legal costs, so I’m writing this review to protect other unsuspecting, good-faith customers like me, who might pay a high price for accommodation and services advertised on social media that differ from what’s actually offered. The beach was wonderful and easy to reach. The room, though, was old and moldy, the shower stall was clogged, and there were cockroaches in the bathroom. It was cleaned daily, but the property isn’t well maintained. The showers had been replaced with Aquaplus Deca ones. Shampoo and other amenities were provided, and fresh towels came every day. The bed was good, the sheets were ordinary, and the air conditioner was new, but the TV didn’t work. The pool was very dirty, though its furniture was new. The playground was poorly maintained, and the playroom had no toys. Staff weren’t helpful or hospitable. I didn’t pay the service charges. At the restaurant, the fries portions were small. The squid was good, but the shrimp was old and tough. We won’t return. The daily rate shouldn’t be 1.100 reais for what they offer, especially with the lack of transparency and good faith toward customers and what I see as the owner’s abusive cancellation practices.
