Pousada Hi Bahia

A cozy, clean, well-kept place, and really good value for the nightly rate.

The only bright spot was the friendly guy at reception. The location was awful, and the room wasn’t cleaned every day as promised. Towels weren’t changed every three days as promised either, and the toilet paper was terrible. The double bed was broken. Parking was cramped, cars got boxed in, and fruit and leaves fell on them. The fans were weak, and some didn’t work. I had to keep switching them around, and when mine stopped, I took one from the room next door because the guy wasn’t there at the time. We paid extra for a room that could sleep 12 even though there were only five of us, but the listing didn’t say the room’s full capacity. There was no shower screen or floor mat in the bathroom. We got a mat ourselves, but there wasn’t much to do about the screen. The place may be cheaper than competitors, but I can’t recommend the experience.

The guesthouse is about a 20-minute walk from central Itacaré. The neighborhood looks quite poor, and some other guests we spoke with were uneasy at first too, but we found it very calm and never felt at risk. Rooms are very basic, some bathrooms have folding doors, and there are no electric showers. Wi-Fi is included but not very good. Breakfast costs extra; for the price they quoted, we found it better to go to the bakery downtown, where the prices, products, and service were great. If money’s tight, Hotel Bahia is well worth considering for a stay, since it was the cheapest place we found.

The staff were polite and friendly, but the stay was poor value for the high price. The location wasn’t good, towels were holey and never changed during our stay, the microwave didn’t work, and the Wi-Fi was weak. Our room had only cheap, single-ply toilet paper, and the bathroom had no screen or curtain. The beds and fans weren’t good, and some walls were cracked.
