Pousada Recantos do Dendê

We spent three nights here over the weekend and really enjoyed this cute, modern pousada. It’s quiet, the room is bright, and there’s a comfortable hammock on the balcony. Breakfast was delicious, and the rooftop pool area is cute too. The staff were friendly. I’d absolutely recommend it and would definitely come back.

We left the next day for Barra Grande, and that turned out to be the best thing we could have done. The beaches on Peninsula de Maraú are wonderful. We highly recommend praia de Algodões (Algodões beach) and staying at Casa del Mar Inn. There are also great Airbnb and Inn options in Barra Grande. Sometimes a bad situation is a blessing in disguise. Here’s what happened: someone in our group got sick two days before the trip. They saw a doctor, tested negative for Covid, and were diagnosed with a common virus. The day before we were due to travel, we asked if a single bed could be moved into another room so one person could stay with a couple until the sick person recovered. The pousada said it wasn’t possible. We explained that we only needed one extra bed in a different room for this specific situation, but they never tried to help. The first receptionist said the manager was traveling and unavailable. A second said she’d be there around 5 pm, but she never showed up that day. We messaged the reservation center to ask to speak with the manager and got no response. I’d read a French tourist’s review about being mistreated, and I can assure you this could happen if you need anything from Pousada Encantos do Dendê. If you have a special request, be aware they may not do anything to help.

Before our trip, I told the pousada I’d be spending my birthday there. They were so thoughtful about it: there was a special decoration when I arrived, and after the room was tidied on my birthday, they left us a sweet little note. I’d seen some negative comments about the service and room size, but my experience was a very pleasant surprise. The room was spacious, comfortable, spotless, and had a balcony. Breakfast was varied and really good, with an employee keeping everything replenished and fresh and warm. They also make tapioca to order, and the kitchen staff prepare it with care. In the afternoon, there’s coffee and cake for guests, and the pool is very pleasant. The staff were kind and attentive, always checking that our stay was going well. I have absolutely nothing to complain about. It was a wonderful experience, and I highly recommend it!
