Pousada Itarema Residence

Fantastic.

A great hotel.

I stayed here for three days, and it really doesn't live up to being called a hotel. It falls short even as a pousada. When I arrived, there was no power. The owner was arguing with a guest who was upset about the outage. I was initially put in room 20, where the air conditioning barely cooled the room. While I was lying down, two staff members opened the door with people still in the room. The next day, the power went out in room 20 and other rooms. The owner was complaining about the cost of repairs. I wasn't going to stay in a room without electricity, so they moved me to room 01. Everything there worked fine, but the shower was awful: barely any water came out, and there was no hot water. The power also went out again after I moved. The soap by the sink was expired. The owner was completely unprepared to deal with guests, and the staff were rude and had no manners. Breakfast was mediocre. I can't recommend this place.

The room was spacious, and the shared area looked lovely, with hammocks, chairs, and a pool. But a number of small things were disappointing. There was no shampoo, only soap, so I had to go buy some. The towels had stains that I only noticed after drying off. The room had been swept, but marks on the floor made it look as though it hadn't been mopped. There was leftover champagne in the fridge, presumably from previous guests, which suggested it hadn't been checked. Breakfast was basic, and there was no kitchen where you could order prepared food. At 150-200, I think the room would have been a decent deal. For 280, I expected a much better breakfast and more careful cleaning. I'll be back in Itarema, but I won't stay at this pousada again.
