Chiclé Passeios Pousada is family-run and serves a lovely breakfast with homemade cakes and bread. The covered garage is free, which was handy for keeping our car out of the strong sun, and there’s a refreshing pool in the middle of the building. We stayed three nights, and it was a great place to break up the journey between Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. It’s right in the center of town, so restaurants and other amenities are easy to reach on foot. Around Penedo, there are amazing tropical forests and waterfalls, including the ones at Maromba, some of the best I’ve seen in Brazil. Good value for the price.

A charming little spot right in the heart of Penedo. It’s family-owned and run, and they went out of their way to help me as a foreigner.
