Hotel Transcontinental

There was wood dust from the furniture all over the floor in the room. The air conditioning didn't work, and there was no way to contact the hotel from the room, so I had to go down to the lobby to report it.

The hotel is quite basic, but it worked for our team. We stayed there for three days with a delegation of 180 people for a competition, and the manager was very helpful and attentive. I also got to hear some of the hotel's story: it was the first in the city and used to be the biggest and best in the region. It's now about to undergo renovations to make some improvements.

The building is old, though the room itself was good. The photos don't really match what it's like in person. Even with a reservation made in advance, service was slow when we arrived at night.

I left disappointed. The front desk employee was the one bright spot, but for what this place costs, there just wasn't quality to match. The hotel feels old and hospital-like, and the room had mold and patches of leftover paint on the walls. We chose it for the pool because we had children with us, and I specifically asked when booking whether it was open so there would be no letdown. It wasn't working. There were other problems from the start: our key card wouldn't open the door until a staff member helped, and the air conditioning had trouble turning on. The room was for four, but there were only three towels. Breakfast was awful, the worst I've had at a hotel. They had French bread and mortadella, and I kept hoping at least that would save the stay.
