The rooms are small, and I might have overlooked that given the location if they were clean. They weren't. The bathroom has black mold, the shower head is caked with mineral buildup, and there's enough dust in the A/C to make it seem like it hasn't been cleaned. I blame management, not the housekeepers. Hotels here may point to the sea air (“maresia”) and humidity, but managers should know these are problem areas and train staff to clean them more thoroughly or often. That's why I can only give the hotel 2 stars. The setting earns 5 stars: right across from the beach, near plenty of good restaurants, beach bars, and souvenir shops, and not far from 2 shopping malls. Breakfast is very good too, with delicious homemade cakes, cookies, and pastries, fresh fruit, and tasty cooked dishes. I'd give it 4 stars. The staff are pleasant, helpful, and accommodating, though no one speaks English. That's hard to find in a Joao Pessoa hotel, and I'd give the staff 4 ½ stars. Taken together, 2 stars is the best I can give.

The place was clean and comfortable, and everything else was okay. Breakfast needs better quality, though. To me, orange juice is a must at a hotel breakfast, and the other juices tasted really bad.
