Jampa Hostel

I sometimes need to stay in this neighborhood, where there aren’t many hotels nearby, but this was my first time trying Bessa Beach Hotel. I won’t stay again and can’t recommend it to anyone I like. The bed was so uncomfortable I barely slept. It had just two flimsy pillows, and our first request for two more went nowhere. We called again after returning from dinner, and the new shift handled it easily, as they should have the first time. Moving a pillow also revealed an electrical outlet behind it on the headboard, which doesn’t seem like a good idea. I’ve never stayed in a hotel without a room safe before. The room had no hangers in what passed for a closet, and the bathroom was tiny and uncomfortable. The elevator smelled overwhelmingly of mold, possibly because guests were using it straight from the swimming pool. The staff didn’t make a good first impression either. When we got out of the car with our bags, the bellman asked if we wanted help bringing them into the hotel, but he didn’t bring them up to our room. Later, we said good evening to the desk clerk when we came back from dinner, and he didn’t reply. It felt like we’d interrupted his nap.

Good value for the price, and a great location.

The staff are lovely, and there’s a pool. Great spot near ice cream shops, restaurants, hot dog stands, and coconut water stands. Agulhas are awesome!
