Nord Luxxor Cabo Branco

Breakfast was included, and it was pretty good. The restaurant looked nice, too. Still, the room had a strong moldy smell, even though I could smell cleaning products. I told the receptionist I was only there for one night and didn't want to switch rooms. She offered, but I wasn't confident another room would be any better. We'd stayed at other Nord hotels in this part of Brazil and found them alright. This one used to be Skyler Mar Hotel, and after six years as a Nord property, the old name was still on every room. I guess no one had gotten around to taking the signs down. Strike one. The location worked well for where we needed to go during our one-night Christmas stay. The room was sparse, though, and the wall-mounted soap and shampoo dispensers felt cheap for a hotel charging about the area's going rate. At least give me a bar of soap, or charge less. Our window looked onto an air shaft, but that's on me for not paying extra for a view. There weren't enough lights either, so it was either a bright light on while sleeping or total darkness. After that experience, I don't think I'd come back or recommend it.

The stay itself was very good, and breakfast was decent, if simple. Room service sandwiches were a letdown, though. I ordered two: one came on bread that seemed a little stale, and the other had an industrial-style burger patty. Íbis hamburgers are much better.

Breakfast was complete. At the restaurant last night, though, just one woman was handling calls for room service as well as the guests at the tables. Parking is tight if you've got a big car, and the showers take a while to warm up.

The staff are friendly, and the rooms are good quality. The air conditioning works well, plus there's a pool and a gym ☺
