Hotel Kanawha is a must-do in Rio De Janeiro. A lot of people visiting Rio don't realize the mountains and this paradise are only a couple of hours away. Sven has made a peaceful oasis in a breathtaking setting, with beautifully finished rooms. Some have hydromassage tubs with properly hot water, which is rare here. Getting there is a challenging drive, but very doable, and a 4WD is better. Don't be in a hurry, though, the views around every corner are crazy.

We went for a relaxing weekend with friends, and it was memorable. The place is tucked away in the Atlantic's Forest, with a river running through the property that we could hear from our chalets. It's one of the most beautiful places I've visited, and the owner and employees were kind throughout and worked hard to make our stay special. The service felt both cozy and professional. We'll definitely come back.

The setting is idyllic, with huge rooms, lovely balanced design, and real comfort. We felt more welcome than anywhere else in all our travels and got much more than we expected. The food was out of this world. We kept thinking about the blue cheese filet appetizer and had to order it again. Breakfast is served at your table instead of as a regular buffet, with fresh breads and cakes, local fruit, and all the rest. Such a hidden gem.

The rooms are little houses surrounded by rivers and lots of nature. One of the most beautiful properties in Brazil, and the most pet-friendly hotel I've ever stayed at.
