Hotel Porto Grande

A modest place.

The breakfast was good, and the restaurant staff were very attentive. The location is great, and there's private parking. Still, at R$293.00 per night through Booking, I found it far too expensive for what you get. I wouldn't recommend it, as there's a lot that needs fixing. The room and bathroom were smaller than they looked in the photos. We had small bags, luckily, because bigger ones would've been hard to fit. When we arrived, we weren't sure the room had actually been cleaned. The beds weren't made consistently, and there was just one towel in the bathroom, placed oddly, as though someone had already used it. The sheets were very thin, poor quality, worn and pilled, almost like paper. We had to ask reception for another one. The sheet was so small it kept coming off the mattress while I slept, leaving me on a mattress covered in stains. Pretty disgusting. A pillow in the closet smelled of perfume, which made us think its pillowcase hadn't been changed. We didn't ask for housekeeping on the first day, but on the second we did because the toilet paper had run out. They only pulled the small sheet straight on one bed and folded the sheet I'd been using as a cover. The other bed was left as it was. They took away the towel I was using without replacing it, and they didn't bring the toilet paper, which was the main reason I'd asked for cleaning. There was no Wi-Fi information in the room. I got the password at reception and connected, but the signal didn't reach the room. We were supposed to connect to another network, but I didn't have its password, and there was no reception number to call. Reception service and housekeeping both fell well short.

The morning receptionist was great and really helpful. The night receptionist, though, was in a bad mood and not very welcoming when we arrived in the early hours. Service felt limited. Breakfast had very few choices, and the nightly rate didn't match the hotel. There's no elevator, and nobody helped with our bags. On our first day, no one told us to leave the key for housekeeping. They only explained that the next day, when they did a pretty average clean. There was hair and sand left on the floor. The sheets were so thin they were almost see-through. We asked for extra sheets, but those were thin too, and the one already on the bed had a hole. We ended up buying a blanket at the mall. The air conditioner wouldn't stay regulated. Even at full power it didn't cool the room, and sometimes it blew warm air.

The location is perfect, and the service was great. The team was excellent and had good tips. I liked the breakfast, though I expected more. The shower was weak in both Aracaju and Maceió, haha. The room was small for three people, and there's no elevator. For the price, it felt like a bit little.
