MCZ Hotel

The only thing this place has going for it is the location. We stayed nine days, and the complimentary afternoon coffee was just black coffee and dry toast every single day, with no milk. The breakfast buffet often had empty sections and started at 7:00, which was too late for Maceió tours that leave early. We sometimes asked to have breakfast earlier and were told they’d make an exception, though it wouldn’t be the full spread. What we found was only dry toast and black coffee. Tapioca took about 40 minutes, and omelets around an hour. The tapioca also came with the wrong filling. We had two different rooms, and both were awful, whatever the floor. The windows are blocked, so no air comes in, and the moldy smell everywhere was unbearable, especially if you have breathing problems or feel uneasy in enclosed spaces. The bathrooms were cramped, with loose flooring and padded walls. Furniture was falling apart, pillows were terrible, and the bath towels were filthy and yellowed. You have to go down to reception each time you need a hair dryer because there isn't one in the room. The brunette receptionist, whose name I don't know, came across as arrogant and unfriendly. The complimentary afternoon coffee is misleading, and this place was embarrassing. I never want to set foot in this dump again.

The afternoon coffee they advertise as complimentary is only coffee, without even any milk. Don't be fooled. The room smelled unbearable, the breakfast was awful, and the hair dryer had to be requested from reception. There are no usable windows, just blocked ones with no airflow. This hotel is worse than a very low-grade inn.

After a difficult trip through a storm, we arrived in high season expecting to use the reservation we had made well in advance, with our credit card details and payment in dollars. The hotel claimed we had no booking, which wasn't true, and said everything was full. That left us with nowhere to sleep. The person who helped us offered no real solution. Truly pathetic treatment, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

The room was small, but that was fine for just one night. The bed was comfortable, and the shower had hot water and strong pressure. Breakfast was very good, with tapioca and omelets made to order. They also offer an afternoon coffee with cake, fruit, and toast.
