Pousada Piratas Di San Rocco

I ended up leaving after just one night of a planned three day stay. The rooms felt like narrow, very small former offices, the staff seemed untrained, and the bathroom door was just a plastic cover that didn't really provide much separation. Breakfast cost extra, despite the room price being higher than at most places, even Ipanema's Beach Hostel in Rio de Janeiro, in one of the most expensive areas in Brasil and the world. I raised my concerns civilly with the owner, but he responded condescendingly and mocked me for saying I wasn't trying to insult anyone, just explaining that I wasn't satisfied. He said I should have researched what a hostel is, though I'd already told him I'd spent almost a month staying in hostels around North-east Brasil. I'd been through much more expensive cities, including Fortaleza, Natal, João Pessoa, Recife during carnaval, when tourism makes it especially costly, and Salvador, as well as several smaller beach towns. I hadn't planned to post a review, but the owner's childish response bothered me even more than the stay. He wouldn't acknowledge any flaws in his business, saying they did everything right and I didn't know what I was talking about, instead of saying they'd try to improve. I paid a little more and stayed at a decent beachfront hotel for just R$20 extra, even though I knew I wouldn't get my money back.

The upstairs terrace is a cute little spot. Breakfast was really, really tasty, and the staff and owner were super friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend it!

Rocco was a fantastic host, so welcoming and kind. The location was very good, and both the room and breakfast met our expectations. The room had air conditioning, hot and cold shower options, and good quality bedding and accessories. I highly recommend it.
